| AVIT 1430 - Airframe Fundamentals I |

Airframe Fundamentals I is designed to instruct the student on which species of wood are acceptable for aircraft repair, to identify defects that are acceptable and those that render the wood unsuitable for aircraft structures. The student will also know which adhesives are acceptable for aircraft repair and the proper way to apply and cure them. The student will be able to demonstrate by means of a diminsioned sketch the proper way to splice a solid or laminated wing spar. The student will be knowledgeable of the different types of fabrics that are approved for covering aircraft structure, will know how to evaluate the airworthiness condition of the fabric, and be able to make airworthy repairs to fabric-covered aircraft structure. The student will be knowledgeable of the different finishing systems and the compatibility of the various system components. He or she will be able to properly apply the various finishing materials and identify the causes of defects in a cured finish.

Prerequisites: AVIT 1310, AVIT 1320, AVIT 1410, and AVIT 1420.
